This gene is a member of the glycoprotein hormone beta chain family and encodes the beta subunit of luteinizing hormone (LH). Glycoprotein hormones are heterodimers consisting of a common alpha subunit and an unique beta subunit which confers biological specificity. LH is expressed in the pituitary gland and promotes spermatogenesis and ovulation by stimulating the testes and ovaries to synthesize steroids. The genes for the beta chains of chorionic gonadotropin and for luteinizing hormone are contiguous on chromosome 19q13.3. Mutations in this gene are associated with hypogonadism which is characterized by infertility and pseudohermaphroditism. 人促黃體生成激素（hLH）是由垂體前葉分泌的糖蛋白激素，其分子量大約為30，000，由兩條多肽鏈（即α和β亞單位）組成。LH的α亞單位由89個氨基酸殘基組成，并與FSH、TSH和 hCG 的α亞單位的結(jié)構(gòu)相同，β亞單位在上述激素之間是不同的，從而賦予各激素各自的生物及免疫學(xué)特性。 在女性體中，LH在卵泡期與FSH一起促進(jìn)卵泡的成熟、雌性激素的合成和分泌；促進(jìn)排卵和使排卵后的卵泡轉(zhuǎn)變?yōu)辄S體。促進(jìn)間質(zhì)的生長。并促進(jìn)黃體合成和孕激素與雌性激素的分泌。男性LH促進(jìn)睪丸間質(zhì)細(xì)胞增生，促進(jìn)其合成和分泌睪酮。由于LH和FSH的作用是互相協(xié)同的，故二者常同時測定。 LH增高見于Klindfelter綜合癥，Turner綜合癥，性腺切除后及促性腺激素產(chǎn)生腫瘤；減低見于西蒙氏病，席漢氏綜合癥，肥胖性生殖器退化綜合癥，垂體性侏儒，睪丸腫瘤，卵巢腫瘤，神經(jīng)性厭食及使用雌激素后。 |
