It may be a signaling molecule in the induction and patterning of the embryonic brain and is preferentially expressed in the embryonic brain. There are two named isoforms. Function: Plays an important role in the regulation of embryonic development and as signaling molecule in the induction and patterning of the embryonic brain. Required for normal brain development. Subunit: Interacts with FGFR3 and FGFR4. Subcellular Location: Secreted. Tissue Specificity: Preferentially expressed in the embryonic brain. Similarity: Belongs to the heparin-binding growth factors family.
